| South West Sports Devon and Cornwall have a lot to offer in the form of sports and activities. The Westcountry has long been associated with surfing, and it seems as if every village and hamlet has its own surf shop. There is good reason for the leaning toward this popular watersport, the peninsular is surrounded by water, and the North Coast, especially, has excellent beach, after excellent beach, all perfectly situated to create great breaks. But that is not to say that there are no other sports here. The moors and valleys are home to wonderful cycle routes, and there are countless companies offering bike hire. In Cornwall, the Camel Trail is particularly popular, starting at Padstow, and then following the old steam railway lines to Bodmin and then into beautiful woods. There are numerous hire centres along the route. Exmoor also makes great cycling, and again, cycle hire is available. With hire centres situated right in Haldon Woods Park, these are great trail, with peaceful, traffic free bike trail for all the family alongside more challenging routes. |
